If you have an eviction notice

What to do when you get an eviction notice:

  1. Fill out the notice. There is a place on the back of the eviction notice where you can explain what happened.

  2. Drop off or mail the notice

    1. Drop it off: Go to Metro Court 401 Lomas NW, Room 210, 2nd floor. Then go to the Information Desk in the lobby and explain what you need.

    2. Mail it: You can mail it to: Customer Service, 401 Lomas Blvd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102

  3. Go to Metro Court on the date of the hearing. If you have't been able to drop off or mail the eviction notice, bring it with you. At the very least, bring a written explanation about what happened. It can be hand written. Everyone goes through hard financial times, so just calmly tell the judge what happened. Don't be embarrassed! And also stay calm. That's your secret weapon!

  • Be sure to respond to the eviction notice and come to your hearing date so you can tell your side of the story.

  • If you don't show up, the judge will automatically rule in favor of the landlord. If that happens, then future landlords won't rent to you.

  • Your landlord might lie to you and say you shouldn't go. Don't believe them! They know the judge will rule in their favor if you don't show up!

  • Judges often rule in favor of the person renting
